1) PRACTICE PORTRAITS - CRITIQUE AND LESSON

Your teacher will use the practice portraits handed in last class as examples to give further tips to improve your portrait photography skills. If you didn't submit any, quickly read the bottom of the Day 3 page and hand a couple in before class starts.

2) HOW TO USE THE CROP TOOL IN PHOTOSHOP
Although you need to learn to frame your images correctly in-camera, it is good to know that you can also adjust framing and composition after the fact in Photoshop. Here's how you crop an image in PS:

1. Open the image in Photoshop
Picture

2. Press "C" to select the Crop tool (pictured below). Change the settings in the top-left box to read "Original Ratio". This preserves the proportions of the original image.
Picture
3. Use the corners of the crop tool box to re-size it. Drag the box around so that the image fits into the crop box the way you want.

Note: If you want to change from a vertical crop to a horizontal crop (or vice versa), press the X key.

4. When you're satisfied with your crop, press ENTER to commit, and then CTRL-0 to make your newly-cropped image full-screen.

Be sure to save your image as a .jpg. Choose a different name if you want to keep the old version too.
