You need to be in a group of 3 (or 4) for this. One person is the photographer, one is the subject, and the third is the "assistant" that holds the photo reflector disc.
You will go outside as a class to practice using reflector discs.
Remember: Do not let the reflector discs touch the ground. They can balance on top of your shoe if necessary but should otherwise be in use or zipped in their case.
3) NATURAL LIGHT PORTRAITS ASSIGNMENT
Natural Light Portraits
You need to be in a group of 3 (or 4) for this. One person is the photographer, one is the subject, and the third is the "assistant" that holds the photo reflector disc.

3) NATURAL LIGHT PORTRAITS ASSIGNMENT
Natural Light Portraits
You will submit a total of SIX (6) up-close portraits for this project.
Using a photo reflector disc, you will demonstrate how to take advantage of natural light to even out shadows and improve your portraits.
SHOT LIST - ALL SHOTS VERTICAL
DAY 1: Shots 1, 2, 3, 6
DAY 2: Shots 4, 5, re-shoot if necessary
All shots are on the same rubric. You'll complete it over two days.
1) Open sun portrait - NO REFLECTOR
2) Open sun portrait - REFLECTOR USED (REFLECTION)
3) Open sun portrait - REFLECTOR USED (DIFFUSION)
4) Backlit open sun portrait - REFLECTION
5) Backlit open sun portrait - DIFFUSION
6) Open shade portrait - REFLECTION
(Log settings for all images)
Shooting Mode: M
Metering Mode: Spot Metering (don't forget!)
Focal Length: 55mm preferred (gives shallow DoF)
Orientation: Vertical (portrait)
Subject: Your camera partner, up close (head & shoulders)
Other gear used: Photo reflector disc (see shot list above)
Reflector disc colour: Your choice. Start with white, try silver, silver & gold, gold. Pick the best.
TO HAND IN:
1) Number your images 1-6 according to the shot list.
2) Put them all in a Google Drive folder: Composition > Natural Light Portraits
3) Open the rubric and log all settings including reflector colour and metering mode (i.e. spot metering)
You should log your settings on the rubric for the first day's images at the end of Day 1 and come back to complete the rubric fully at the end of Day 2.
