"A picture is worth a thousand words."
This quote, which has existed for over a hundred years now, says what you've already learned by now: that photography can be very evocative. It's not just about snapshots but about ideas and emotions.
For this project, we will flip this idea around and capture the essence of a single word in a photograph.
In short, you take a series of images that can each be described or labeled with one word. You can edit them in Photoshop as you see fit to help them better match the word they're paired with. You will then add the word itself to each image in a creative way that completes the feel of the image.

ASSIGNMENT: ONE-WORD PHOTOS
For this assignment, you will take a series of TEN images that can each be described or labeled with one word.
You can edit them in Photoshop as you see fit to help them better match the word they're paired with.
You will then add the word itself to each image in a creative way that completes the feel of the image.
Need ideas for how to incorporate text into your photography?
Try Googling "photography and text."
Your words can include emotions, descriptions, ideas, and so on. Avoid simple labels (i.e. a photo of a chair called "chair").
Previous student words include: bizarre, broken, daybreak, freedom, friends, gone, isolation, polar, uncertainty, welcome, alone, awaken, creep, dead, high, life, locked, lost, natural, numb, change, destiny, escape, explore, free, journey, dream, pure, daydream, distance, elegance, enchanted, inspiration, passion, security, friendship, memories, hope, age, why, depression, colour, concentration, creativity, growth, trapped
HAND-IN INSTRUCTIONS:
1) If you haven't already done so, go to your Google Drive Photo 20 folder and SHARE it with "teacherfirst.lastname@ecsd.net" Please allow editing privileges (this lets your teacher fill in the marking rubrics).
2) Select the ten final, edited images from your F:\Photo 20\Communication\One-Word Photographs folder that you want to submit.
3) Rename those ten images according to the words they represent.
3) In Google Drive, make a new folder within your Photo 20 > Communication folder. Call it One-Word Photographs.
4) Get (copy to the clipboard) a LINK to that folder. Once you see the link, press CTRL-C to copy the link to the clipboard.
5) Open Google Classroom and find this assignment.
6) Complete the rubric attached to the assignment. It will get handed in automatically.
7) Add the LINK to your Google Drive folder (CTRL-V will paste it)
8) You're done! Hand it in!
